Saint Eleftherios Slate Tile - Greek

Saint Eleftherios is a revered early Christian Martyr and Bishop, honoured for his unwavering Faith and Courage under persecution. Born in Rome in the 2nd century, he was raised in the Christian Faith by his devout mother, Anthea. His Holiness and Wisdom were recognised early, and he was ordained a Bishop while still very young.

As bishop of Illyricum (modern-day Western Balkans), Saint Eleftherios fearlessly preached the Gospel during a time of severe Roman persecution. His steadfast devotion to Christ drew many to the Faith, angering the Roman authorities. Eventually, he was arrested, tortured, and martyred for refusing to renounce Christianity 🤍

Saint Eleftherios became a symbol of Spiritual freedom, his name itself meaning “the liberator.” He is venerated in the Orthodox Church as a protector of the Faithful, especially women in childbirth, and is commemorated on December 15th. His life is a lasting testimony to Faith, Courage, and Divine grace.
